In finishing, we seek maximum growth rate, as maximum growth is typically the key driver for optimum feed efficiency, which drives feed cost. Short timeframes of reduced feed or water intake in finishing can have significant negative effects on how a closeout will look.

FURST PROTECT DIRECT™ has several key applications for finishing pigs.

  1. To support finishing pigs during heat stress, and/or mixing stress.  We often combine pigs, whether loading a new barn, or by marketing pigs, changing the social order within a pen creates stress. When we do this, and especially during the presence of heat or disease pressure, performance can be negatively impacted. Supporting feed and water intake during such time is critical, and FURST PROTECT DIRECT™ is a quick, easy and effective solution.
  2. During sudden drops in feed intake. Certain health challenges such as Influenza can have sudden and rapid drops in water and feed intake, and as pigs remain off feed for up to a week, they may develop enteric issues caused by ulcers and lack of consuming feed, which leads to downregulation of gut enzymes. Practical experience has shown that supplementation of FURST PROTECT DIRECT™ immediately when such a drop is noticed, increases feed and water intake, which may reduce negative long-term effects.
  3. During the withdrawal ‘black out’ period. Many products cannot be used during the pre-slaughter period when a stress event occurs like a late Influenza challenge. Supporting the animals through immune nutrition supplementation is a valid alternative, as FURST PROTECT DIRECT™ is a fully-natural nutritional supplement with no withdrawal.

Water Supplementation Directions

50 – 100 lbs
Early Finishing
Mix 1-gallon container of FURST PROTECT DIRECT™ with 40 gallons of clean water, stir well, and meter into drinking water at 1:128. Ideally, as with any water supplement, use a stir pump; if not available, manually stir the stock solution in morning and evening if needed.
50 – 100 lbs
100 – 200 lbs
Mid Finishing
Mix 1-gallon container of FURST PROTECT DIRECT™ with 60 gallons of clean water, stir well, and meter into drinking water at 1:128. Ideally, as with any water supplement, use a stir pump; if not available, manually stir the stock solution in morning and evening if needed.
100 – 200 lbs
200 – 300 lbs
Late Finishing
Mix 1-gallon container of FURST PROTECT DIRECT™ with 80 gallons of clean water, stir well, and meter into drinking water at 1:128. Ideally, as with any water supplement, use a stir pump; if not available, manually stir the stock solution in morning and evening if needed.
